Saint Nicholas day that is celebrated on December 6 is renowned to have empathy and care for the poor, he famously was known to have provided dowries for three impoverished maidens in order to help them marry and not be forced into the life of prostitution . His love for children and well being made him a favoured patron saint for children. He is also known to have calmed stormy seas during his pilgrimages, making him a patron saint to Sailors/Fishermen.
