St. Margaret is honored in the Orthodox Christian Church as a saint remembered for her faith and devotion to Christianity. Her feast day is celebrated on January 25, and on this day people named Margaret, Margarita, Margareta, Rita, and Daisy celebrate their Greek name day.
Saint Margarita the New Martyr was abbess of the Holy Monastery of Saint John the Baptist in the city of Menzelinsk of Russia and was of Greek origin. The Saint was distinguished for her strict ascetic life and her great education. Margarita, fearing the Bolsheviks, decided to leave the monastery in September 1918 AD. Saint Nicholas appeared before her and told her to return to the Monastery, as she did. The next day, the Bolsheviks invaded the monastery and executed Margarita as a counter-revolutionary.
Saint Margarita the Holy New Martyr is honoured by the Orthodox Christian Church on January 25 of each year.
