Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar and is considered one of the holiest months for Muslims around the world. It is observed as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community. During Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn until sunset, abstaining from food, drink, smoking, and marital relations during daylight hours. The fast, known as "Sawm," is one of the Five Pillars of Islam, which are fundamental acts of worship.

The month of Ramadan is also a time for increased spiritual devotion, prayer, and recitation of the Quran. Many Muslims engage in additional prayers called "Taraweeh" during the nights of Ramadan.
