Kandili Start up Set

This special Orthodox ritual is practised by most Orthodox Christians.

Traditionally you light a kandili/vigil lamp for 40 days when a loved one passes away, symbolising the eternal flame of the departed soul. However we also light the kandili as symbolism the Jesus Christ brings light into our lives.

This is usually placed in a section of our home where we find peaceful and surrounded by religious items like Crosses, Icons and Iconostasis.

The oil used symbolises the infinite mercy of God and is derived from the Greek word for oil – έλαιον – meaning mercy. The flame is a reminder that Jesus Chris is the light of the world and illuminates our souls.
